The Emberglint Ring

EmberGlint Ring
Wondrous item, rare (requires attunement)

Description:
This bronze ring is blackened with age, and a cracked ruby is set at its centre. Within the gem flickers a single, eternal ember that never extinguishes. It hums faintly with latent heat.

While wearing this ring, you can cast the Scorching Ray spell once per long rest without expending a spell slot or requiring material components.

The spell is cast at 3rd level.
The spell attack bonus is +6, and the spell save DC is 14, unless you have higher values.
Once used, this feature can’t be used again until the next dawn.

Scorching Ray (as cast at 3rd level)
Evocation cantrip
Casting Time: 1 action
Range: 120 feet
Components: V, S
Duration: Instantaneous

You create four rays of fire and hurl them at targets within range. You can hurl them at one target or several. Make a ranged spell attack for each ray. On a hit, a ray deals 2d6 fire damage.

Curse – Burned into Memory:

The Emberglint Ring is cursed. Attuning to it curses you until the ring is destroyed or the curse is lifted.

Each time you cast Scorching Ray using the ring, you take 1d10 psychic damage. This damage can’t be reduced or avoided by any means.
After each use, you receive a vivid, involuntary vision of a loved one burning alive.

After the third use, you gain 1 level of exhaustion.

This exhaustion can’t be removed by resting or by magic unless the ring is destroyed or passed to another creature, who then becomes attuned and inherits the curse.

The curse can't be removed by Remove Curse. The ring must be physically destroyed or transferred willingly.

Lore:
Forged by a desperate pyromancer who traded his soul to halt a demonic invasion, the Emberglint Ring was never meant to be worn lightly. Its power is real—and so is its cost.
