Battlefield Spoils of the Broken Vanguard

The party picks through the mud and overturned shields where the Broken Vanguard made their last stand. Four girallons, wild and clawed, had torn through the flank of the militia, and the clash left a chaotic spread of salvage: torn banners, scorched leather, and bodies both human and beast. Most of the weapons and armor are simple and serviceable, but among the wreckage a few valuable pieces stand out: officer pay sealed in a sodden pouch, an officer's silvered sash, a Flame Tongue longsword driven into the ground where a sergeant fell, two potions hurriedly packed by a medic, and a pair of unusual girallon pelts. The survivors and looters will argue over banners and pay, while the more careful eyes find gems, a smithing reed worth a craftsman's asking price, and a strange carved totem taken from a girallon nesting tree. A clever party can convert pelts into warm cloaks, sell the Flame Tongue for a kingship of coin, or use the intelligence in the captain's notebook to press the advantage against whoever led the militia into that bloody hollow.
