The Tale of This Treasure

Behind a false wall in the private study of a recently-deposed marquess the party finds a carefully curated cache: the sorts of things a high-born household keeps for emergencies, influence, and legacy. There are sealed ledgers with debts and letters of credit; small but exquisite treasures meant to buy favors; a few discreetly enchanted heirlooms worn on ceremonial occasions; and a supply of rare trade goods and receipts that prove ownership of lands and ships. Nothing on the ledgers is crude — the cache reflects the taste and resources of an established noble house, intended to be liquidated quickly if the house needed to flee or bribe its way back into power.
