Gullet and Grotto: The Cave Troll's Hoard

The cave reeked of rot and old blood. Two trolls made their nest under a collapsed stalactite shelf: a lumbering cave troll and its smaller companion. Their trophies—bits of metal, cursed trinkets, and the spoil of unlucky travelers—were piled amid damp furs and broken shields. Much of the cache is stained and partially eaten, but among the gore are things clearly stolen from passing caravans or prized by cave-dwelling scavengers: a handful of gems hidden in a leather maw, a sealed phial tucked inside a ribcage, and a heavy ring threaded onto a bone chain that the cave troll wore like a talisman. The party finds practical salvage (weapons and bone tools), a few items useful to alchemists and healers (troll fat keeps surprisingly well when cured), and one notable magical item that feels older than the trolls themselves.
