The Buried Maw and Battlefield Spoils

The purple worm erupted from beneath a churned field of mud and blood, swallowing a contingent of cavalry and a baggage train whole before the party drove it off. As the dust settled, the battlefield offered a grim mixture of oiled leather, shattered lances, and the worm's own viscera. Tents and wagons were shredded, scattering coin, personal effects, and a few items of value. The worm's belly contained partially digested cargo — gemstones, a sealed treasure chest from a merchant caravan, and biological components prized by alchemists and leatherworkers. Survivors and scavengers had already taken some flotsam, so what remains is a mix of battlefield salvage and rare materials from the worm itself. The party can expect both immediate coin and useful crafting or alchemical reagents, plus one minor magical item pulled from a merchant's guarded chest.
