The pair made their lair in the hollow beneath an overturned stone slab, the adult's sleek pelt shimmering where the light never quite landed the way it should. After the skirmish the den is quiet but for the soft panting of the surviving kitten; the adult's body and the kit's bedding reveal both useful materials and a small hoard of pilfered goods — prey bones, a few coins, and a glitter of gems the beasts dragged in from local hunters' kills. The adult's hide and preserved tentacles are prized by tanners and arcane craftsmen who value the unique light-bending properties of displacer tissues; small vials of viscous ichor and an opalescent eye-like stone hint at more exotic uses for alchemists and illusionists.
