The Tale of This Treasure
The bandit crew had been skirting the lanes around the Pinefall Lumbermill, shaking down day-laborers and pocketing the mill's irregular payroll. When the captain and his six cutthroats tried to hold the loading shed as a makeshift base, the party struck. After the skirmish the mill's floorboards and a hollowed oak stave yielded a motley hoard: a battered payroll pouch, the captain's well-kept armor and blade, a crate of milled oak the gang meant to fence, and a ledger stuffed with names and amounts that points to other drop sites. Much of what the bandits carried is mundane — useful to craftsmen or easily sold in town — but a few items (a rough opal, a key to a sealed storeroom) could prompt follow-up investigation or fetch good coin.
