The Tale of This Treasure
Beneath a collapsed vaulted chamber in the dragon's lair the party found the Ember-Keeper's Hoard: the spoils the wyrm collected over decades of terror and tribute. Piled high were coins from half a dozen kingdoms, platinum ingots from a vanished trading consortium, and a small clutch of high-value gemstones the dragon used as playthings. Mixed into the glitter were sensible tools and dangerous toys: a Bag of Holding for hauling the haul, a Necklace of Fireballs with several beads left, bracers taken from a fallen champion, and a tempered +1 longsword that had cleaved more than one hero. Scattered among the trinkets were alchemical phials and a few healing potions the dragon kept for the rare time it wanted to amuse itself by healing an injured favorite. Two unusual finds hint at the wyrm's odd tastes and provide options for crafters: a Dragon Ember Shard warm to the touch and a mounted Scale of the Hoardwarden that can be used in rituals or as a high-value component. This hoard will outfit the party for the next stage of their journey, but it will also draw attention from greedy nobles and rival creatures who prize dragon-forged things.
