Appearance
Maris moves like someone who has spent half her life atop wagons and crosswise between sleepers: economical, balanced, and ready for sudden shifts. She wears a wind-darkened leather coat patched with canvas from three different borderlands; the right cuff is embroidered with an unfamiliar sigil from a desert trade house. Her face is a map of small scars and laugh lines, with a permanent sunburned rim along the cheekbones. Her right hand still bears faint callus rings from a rope burn long healed but remembered. Contradiction: she carries herself with the cautious poise of a veteran leader but decorates her packs with bright paper charms and a single child's ribbon tied to her staff, an odd softness against her grizzled exterior.
“Plainspoken and clipped; uses trading metaphors. In tense talks she slows and adds small pleasantries as buying-time.”

Distinguishing Features
A faded trade-brand burn on the inside of her left forearm
A child's blue ribbon tied to the top of her staff
A small silver coin threaded into her braid as if to ward off bad deals
Voice
“Low, slightly rasped from years of wind and shouting; calming when giving orders, raw with fatigue in private.”
Clothing
Layered traveling clothes: patched leather coat, heavy linen shirt, calf-length skirt split for travel, sturdy boots with extra nails in the soles, and a woven sash that holds small pouches. She keeps a waterproof cloak rolled behind her collar.
Body Language
Keeps shoulders squared, hands near belts or staff; when relaxed she leans a hip on a wagon rim and drags a thumb over her ledger's spine.
