Appearance

Rough hands stained with spice and lard, a face freckled by steam rather than sun, and an ever-present smear of flour on the left temple. Moves with the steady economy of someone who spends hours on their feet: deliberate, purposeful steps and a pelvis that subtly anticipates the next shift of weight. His apron is patched in dozens of places with mismatched cloth, each patch sewn with a different colored thread as though he could not bear two patches to match. Unexpectedly neat fingernails peek from beneath grease and callus, and he keeps a small locket pinned beneath his shirt, hidden and always warm against his sternum.

Distinguishing Features

Left ear slightly misshapen from burn and old injury

Apron covered in mismatched, brightly colored patches

Small brass locket worn hidden beneath his shirt

Voice

Gruff but warm; speaks with the cadence of someone used to calling out orders to a busy kitchen

Clothing

A faded brown linen shirt under a heavy patched apron, oil-stained leather shoes, a thin brass ring on his right thumb soldered shut, and a stained kerchief tied to his belt. He keeps a small iron whistle on a cord around his neck.

Body Language

Open shoulders and steady hands in the kitchen, but he closes himself—arms shortening to his torso and feet braced—when threatened. He tilts his head to the right when listening intently due to partial hearing loss in the left ear.
