Long feathered streamers — dyed in the deep teal and copper of the high-roost clans — trail from the crown and down the left wing, braided with tiny iron bells used in ceremonial flights. Their beak is finely scarred along one edge, a pale line that softens into a stoic smile. When they move, they tilt and rock as if perpetually balanced against a crosswind; they habitually hold their head slightly down, scanning the horizon.
