His scales are dark as cooled lava, mottled with hairline cracks that shimmer with microscopic veins of glassy obsidian. Two great horns curl backward from his brow in ridged, hammered spirals—one horn bears scores of pitting from slag and an old lightning strike, the other polished smooth by ceremonial oil. His face is a map of scars: a jagged white line runs from the corner of his left eye down over the jaw where a molten splash froze into a permanent ridge. His right foreclaw is perpetually ember-laced; the knuckles glow dim orange, and when he flexes it a faint scent of iron and singed leather follows. He wears a welded, soot-darkened half-apron over layered smithing robes: heavy leather bracers studded with runes, a belt hung with hammers and measure-chains, and a cloak of woven ironthread that fans like a heat shimmer. Unexpectedly, he keeps one small orchid pinned to his chestplate—tended and improbably alive, its petals white as ash. Up close his breath smells of coal and bergamot; at a distance he exudes the calm, authoritative warmth of a hearth.
