Merrin Tinkertop
Artificier
Merrin Tinkertop
Species
Halfling
Appearance
Small and spry with warm, flourished movements. Merrin moves like someone used to lifting marionettes: wrists quick and fingers precise. Her face is round and freckled with laugh lines famously creasing at the corners of her eyes. She keeps one eyebrow perpetually arched as if expecting a joke; when she smiles a faint burnish of coffee stains edges her teeth from decades of late shop nights. Her apron is sewn with tiny stitched puppets and a hidden pocket of velvet beneath the left flap. Contradiction: she wears a battered leather fingertip glove on her right hand to aid delicate carving but on her left hand she always wears a bright, childlike mitten with stitched eyes she made for her first apprentice. The mitten is both sentimental and oddly unsettling.
“Speaks in lilting cadences, often rhyming or inserting a couplet. Uses diminutives and theatrical phrasing to soften requests and rebukes.”

Distinguishing Features
Bright mitten puppet worn on left hand at all times
Tiny stitch scars along the knuckles from years of carving
A faded soot mark at the base of her neck from the theater fire
Voice
“Warm alto with a practiced laugh. Her singing voice can be bright and quick for jaunty numbers or unexpectedly deep and sorrowful for lullabies.”
Clothing
Practical linen dress layered under a patched leather apron; pouches and tool loops; a scarf of tiny embroidered faces; the left mitten puppet always on display.
Body Language
Hands flutter and index fingers tap rhythms on tabletops when thinking. She often tilts her head while listening as if testing notes. When uncomfortable she tucks her mittened hand into her apron.
