His beard is braided into three thick ropes interwoven with a strip of iron chain; the ends are singed and scented faintly of peat smoke. Scars ridged across his left forearm like a topographic map. His gait is a compact roll rather than a stride, so he seems to arrive where he wants to be before you expect him. Unexpectedly delicate hands with oil-stained nails reveal practiced care for tools. When he laughs he claps both palms together and hits his chest, producing a surprisingly musical thud.
