Aevin Mapthorn
Woodcarver & Mapmaker
Aevin Mapthorn
Species
Gnome (Forest)
Appearance
Aevin is compact and spry, shoulders rounded from years bent over benches and tables. They wear round spectacles that sit perpetually crooked on a freckled nose; the lenses are perpetually smudged with fine dust and ink. Their hands are a study in contrasts: stubby, callused thumbs from carving and ink-stained, nimble fingers from writing and drafting maps. Their posture favors a slight forward lean, as though perpetually listening to a map or whispering wood grain. Movement is quick and precise — a hop-step in place, a soft tap of a foot when thinking. Unexpectedly, Aevin keeps one eye always wider than the other, the left ringed with a faint silvery scar that tightens when they concentrate. They often trail tiny wood shavings behind them, like breadcrumbs of their trade.
“Warm, quick, with the clipped enthusiasm of someone used to teaching; often peppers sentences with direction words ('left at the lichen,' 'three paces from the carved oak'). Uses old proverbs from Thistle for emphasis and has a habit of correcting measurements mid-sentence.”

Distinguishing Features
Round spectacles always crooked and ink-smudged
Left eye circled by a faint silvery scar
Ink-stained fingertips that never quite wash clean
A long braid with moss-green threads woven in
Always leaves tiny wood shavings in their wake
Voice
“A warm, slightly nasal alto with quick cadence; laughter comes in dry, short bursts; voice softens when recounting family memories.”
Clothing
Layered, practical: a soot-dark linen shirt, a patched leather apron packed with carving knives and compasses, knee-length wool trousers with pockets full of measuring beads, and a hooded green travel cloak embroidered with tiny maps in copper thread. Small brass chains with charms (a compass, an acorn, a thimble) clink at their belt. Boots are soft-soled for creaky floorboards and quiet steps.
Body Language
Tends to touch nearby wood or their tools when thinking; tilts head and taps spectacles when calculating distances; folds in on themselves when secrets are near the surface.
