Appearance

She moves like a weathered reed in a storm. Short cropped silver-streaked black hair hangs in damp, uneven clumps at her nape. Her skin is freckled with salt and sun spots, and a thin pale scar curves from her left temple down to the jaw like a dried lightning stroke. Her left forearm is wrapped in a faded blue sash embroidered with tiny cloud motifs that shift slightly when she concentrates. When she walks she favors the right side as if avoiding an old bruise. Unexpectedly, she always carries a small carved wooden music box that plays a crooked lullaby when wound. That lullaby calms people and animals nearby for a few seconds, but she will not tell anyone where the box came from.

Speech is slightly raspy from salt air, uses sea metaphors and clipped, image-rich phrases. When lying she hums a two-note pattern under her breath.”

Distinguishing Features

Curved pale scar from temple to jaw

Faded blue sash with cloud motifs

Always carrying a wound music box that plays a crooked lullaby

Voice

A low, sea-weathered voice with a sing-song cadence when she tells personal stories; calm but capable of quick sharpness

Clothing

A weathered short coat of dark blue oilcloth lined with faded linen, loose trousers cinched with thick rope, and a woven sash embroidered with cloud motifs. She layers rings of silver wire on her right index finger and wears a pair of mismatched leather boots. Hidden under her coat is a hooded cloak sewn with tiny reflective beads that flash like spray when she moves.

Body Language

She tilts her head slightly toward sources of sound and habitually folds her hands around her sash when thinking. In tense moments she traces thumb-runs along the seam of the music box as if reading Braille.
