Karruk Ironvein
Commander of the Frost Legion
Karruk Ironvein
Species
Mountain Dwarf
Appearance
Karruk moves like a boulder made to walk: slow to start, inevitable once in motion. He is broad-shouldered and compact, each step deliberate. His beard is long, split into three braids bound with frosted iron rings stamped with the Frost Legion sigil; the beard is meticulously groomed, but one braid contains a single white feather tucked into it—an old battlefield token. He is always seen polishing one froststeel pauldron with a cloth of deep navy wool; the pauldron's surface reflects light like ice and is nicked by countless glancing blows. His face is a network of pale scars—one long, clean gouge from temple to jaw that flattened a previous scar, giving him an oddly symmetrical, almost carved look. His gaze is cool and assessing. Contradiction: despite the frost motif and hard, metallic accoutrements, his cloak's interior is lined with the warm, patched quilts of his late sister, visible only when he flips the cloak open in private or during sudden gusts, revealing a softer side and fragrant scent of lavender and smoke.
“Gruff, economical with words; uses short, clipped sentences in command but slips into low, sonorous anecdotes when relaxed. Occasional oldhold idioms ("stone remembers") and a tendency to end sentences with a soft exhalation.”

Distinguishing Features
Long braided beard with a single white feather tucked in the right braid
Froststeel pauldron perpetually being polished
Deep diagonal scar from temple to jaw
Left eyebrow oxidized with faint froststeel residue
Voice
“Low, gravelly, with a resonant cadence. Words come measured; laughter is brief and rare, like a struck chisel.”
Clothing
Never seen without a dark blue wool overcoat of the Frost Legion, froststeel pauldron on the left shoulder, layered leather brigandine beneath, thick leather boots reinforced with riveted iron, a wide leather belt holding a short spear and several pouches. In quieter moments he favors a simple wool cap and the patched quilted lining of his cloak.
Body Language
Leans slightly forward when listening, as if weight gravitates toward the truth; fingers unconsciously trace the pauldron's rim when thinking; stands with feet shoulder-width apart, an immovable base.
