Kael moves like someone who learned to fight before he learned to smile. His motions are economical and precise, each step placed as if on a map only he can see. A faint vinelike pale scar coils from his left temple down his neck and disappears beneath his collar. His left eye is a deep chestnut while his right is a nearly black iris flecked with silver, as if a shard of night is trapped in it. He keeps a thin silver circlet low on his brow, dented and worn on the right side. When he speaks he tilts his head as if listening to something no one else can hear. Unexpectedly, he carries a small knitted rabbit the size of a fist dangling from his belt, a bright and childish contrast to the rest of him.
