Thalen Marris
Eldritch Knight (Fighter 5)
Thalen Marris
Species
Half-Elf (Riverfolk Heritage)
Appearance
Thalen moves like a man who learned to keep his balance on shifting decks long before he learned courtly steps. He favors a long, weather-reddened coat whose cuffs are embroidered with tiny wavy runes, the stitches still bright against the dull cloth — a small stubborn pride against the river’s stain. His left forearm is wrapped in a leather bracer carved with tide lines; the skin beneath is puckered and pale from a burned, underwater wound. When he walks he keeps one hand half-open, as if ready to touch a railing or draw a blade. Unexpectedly, despite a face carved by wind and patchwork scars, his fingers are ink-stained from meticulous notes and delicate sketches. That contradiction — brutal hands, careful handwriting — unsettles strangers and comforts the curious.
“Measured and low, salted with river idioms; short, clipped sentences when irritated. Uses nautical metaphors unconsciously: 'hold fast', 'reef the thought', 'we'll drift there later'.”

Distinguishing Features
Puckered white scar across the left forearm (burned underwater)
Single silver streak in his hair
Ink-stained fingertips from meticulous logkeeping
A faint, old brand of a river guild on the inside of his right wrist
Voice
“Low, roughened by wind and smoke. Not loud, but carries well; his laugh is short and china-like — a burst followed by silence.”
Clothing
A heavy, oilskin duster with rune-stitched cuffs; a slate-gray linen shirt; fitted leather waistcoat with pockets for small tools; half-plate breast and gorget worn over the coat when sailing into danger; weathered boots wrapped with canvas ties; an embroidered blue scarf often tucked into his collar.
Body Language
Keeps one hand near his bracer; when thinking he taps two fingers in a steady rhythm. He leans forward when someone mentions maps or routes and straightens when politics are brought up.
