Appearance

A broad, calming presence in a flour-dusted apron. Shirly's gray, leathery hide is matte like old stone but soft at the joints from years of washing plates; flecks of dried chopped herbs cling to the creases around her wrists and behind her ears. Her tusks are long, polished to a warm sheen and engraved with looping floral filigree—an engraving she adds to whenever she feels a story deserves a remembrance. Large ears fan and twitch constantly, the veins showing a slow, steady rhythm when she listens. She moves with surprising lightness, as if years of carrying barrels taught her to place weight precisely; her steps are deliberate and almost balletic for someone her size. Unexpectedly, when she is sewing or painting, her trunk becomes delicate and precise, handling needles and tiniest brush bristles with the same steadiness that moves a laden tray.

Height7 ft 2 in (shoulder to crown when standing upright)
BuildMassive, softly muscled; deceptively nimble
EyesWarm hazel with flecks of gold
HairNone (short, fine bristling fore-hair only visible along the head ridge)
SkinMuted slate-gray with warmer, dust-flecked highlights

Measured, warm, and gravel-deep; she uses short proverbs and often mentions food metaphors when giving advice ("Let this stew sit a bit — truth, like broth, deepens with time"). She rarely raises her voice; when she does, it resonates like distant thunder.”

Flour- and herb-streaked hide

Right ear pierced twice with tiny brass rings shaped like leaves

A shallow, silvered scar across her right knee from a long-ago cellar accident

Voice

Deep and resonant, a rumble that settles a room; laughter comes like a low bell tolling and can ease tensions.

Clothing

A patched linen apron stained with onion and turmeric, a faded green linen dress under a leather waist-porter with pockets for spices and a small carved flute; a shawl of woven barley-straw for chilly evenings

Body Language

Open shoulders, slow deliberate gestures, frequently folds hands atop the counter; when upset she presses a thumb into the carved notch of her spoon and looks out toward the river.
