Species

Halfling (Lightfoot)

Appearance

Barnaby is a stout, cheerful looking halfling with a face like a dried apple, full of friendly wrinkles and a perpetual rosy flush. His hands are thick and calloused from years of handling heavy casks, yet they move with a startling, surgical precision when he carves meat or counts coins. While he projects the image of a bumbling, hospitable host, his hazel eyes are uncomfortably sharp, darting around the room to catch every whispered word and subtle gesture. He moves with a silent, rolling gait that allows him to appear at a patron's elbow without making a sound. A peculiar, jagged scar from an old acid burn runs from his left wrist up to his elbow, often hidden by his rolled-up sleeves.

His speech is rapid and peppered with culinary metaphors. He often uses 'we' when he means 'I', and his voice has a melodic, sing-song quality that makes even threats sound like friendly advice.”

Pitted acid scars on the left forearm

A permanent smudge of flour behind his right ear

Unnaturally still posture when he is listening intently

A soft, gravelly baritone that carries surprisingly well across a noisy room.

A pristine white linen shirt under a charcoal-grey wool vest. He wears a heavy leather apron stained with ale and gravy, which features several hidden pockets for small knives and notebooks. A silver whistle hangs on a leather cord around his neck, usually tucked inside his shirt.

Body Language

He leans forward when listening, resting his chin on his hands to appear non-threatening, but his feet are always planted in a way that allows for a quick dash or strike.
