Captain Elara Thorne
Militia Captain
Captain Elara Thorne
Species
Human
Appearance
Weathered and compact presence honed by years on the walls. Her skin is leathery from wind and sun. She wears her cropped silver braid coiled at the nape like a knot of wire. A pale, jagged scar slices over her left brow and the outer corner of her left eye, the skin puckered and slightly sunken so the eye sometimes seems to squint even when she is relaxed. She moves with the economy of someone who wastes no motion but when she laughs she tilts her head all the way back like a captain pulling a rope, revealing a surprising set of small gold hoop earrings tucked behind the braid. When standing at attention she keeps one hand brushing the hilt of her sword as if to calm it and herself. Contradictory element: despite her severe, shortened hair and face of a hardened soldier she always has a faint smear of flour or grain on her cuff from inspecting the granary.
“Concise, with the clipped cadence of someone used to giving orders. Uses trade terms and expects listeners to understand the basics of soldiering.”

Distinguishing Features
Cropped silver braid coiled at the nape
Jagged scar crossing left brow and eye
Permanent faint smear of flour on her cuff
Voice
“Low and gravelly from years of shouting over wind and armor; quick to bark orders but capable of soft, weary counsel when alone.”
Clothing
Layered practical garments. A patched gray leather jerkin worn over a woolen doublet, faded blue sash denoting militia rank, sturdy high boots with iron toe caps, and a weather-stained cloak that doubles as a ground blanket. Wears a simple silver torque given by her mother beneath her shirt.
Body Language
Straight-backed and economical. Fingers habitually stroke the braid knot when listening. When irritated her shoulders rise and the left eye narrows into that scar-slit squint.
