His red hair is cropped short, a deliberate burr that reveals a pale scalp freckled with old sunburns. A close shaven beard follows the strong line of his jaw and is threaded with one silver strand at the chin. He favors worn plate and a battle-stained kite shield embossed with a sideways oak leaf. Under the armor his travel shirt is forest green and patched at the elbow. When he walks he carries a measured calm; when he runs his movements are economical, almost dancerlike.
