Barnaby Barnacles Shellback
Species
Tortle
Appearance
Barnaby is a hulking figure with a shell that resembles a weathered reef. His skin is the color of wet river stones, wrinkled and tough. Tiny, glowing blue barnacles and patches of velvet-green moss cling to the ridges of his carapace. He moves with a deliberate, rhythmic heaviness that vibrates the floorboards, yet his hands are shockingly delicate, moving with a blurring speed when he handles glass vials or fine powders. He often has a small, translucent crab named Pinchy perched on his shoulder that helps him clean his shell. His eyes are like warm amber, often squinting through a pair of spectacles held together by seaweed twine.
“Slow and resonant, with a slight bubbling quality like water over stones. He pauses frequently to find the precise word and uses aquatic metaphors for almost everything.”
