Species

Kobold

Appearance

A small, stooped kobold whose once-gleaming blue scales are mottled with soft white patches that spread like lichen across his shoulders and muzzle. He walks with a careful, measured shuffle, balancing a battered wooden banjo across his knee like a treasured staff. His beard is improbably long for a kobold: a thin, wiry white beard that threads between his teeth when he speaks and is often braided with tiny metallic bells and found trinkets. His forearms are scarred and mottled, the delicate ridges of old battle wounds visible beneath the thinning scales. He favors sitting on low stools and will often tilt his head up with a slow, knowing smile when listening. Unexpectedly, his left eye is clouded milky white while the right gleams an alert golden amber — a discordant pair that gives his face both gentleness and a predator's focus.

Softly accented Common with clipped sibilants; often peppers stories with old kobold proverbs. Speaks slowly, as if weighing each syllable, and slips into song easily mid-sentence.”

Distinguishing Features

Blue scales turning white in irregular patches

Unusually long braided beard with bells and trinkets

Clouded left eye; alert golden right eye

Worn banjo with a carved sunrise on its back

Voice

Raspy but musical, cracked by age; capable of bright, high notes when he sings and a gravelly whisper when he becomes serious.

Clothing

A faded travel-worn patchwork duster made from sailcloth and tapestry scraps; many pockets sewn inside and out. A leather strap across his chest holds his banjo. Mismatched fingerless gloves, one patched with a coin, the other with a pressed flower. Small trinkets dangle from his belt: a tarnished whistle, a brass thimble, a sliver of map in a glass vial.

Body Language

Tilts head toward sounds, taps his banjo rhythm on knees when impatient, folds into himself when recounting shameful memories.
