The Dead Mere is a vast, bleak swamp spanning roughly a hundred miles and severing the kingdom's overland link to the continent. Suckholes, black pools, and skeletal copses make travel perilous, and channels shift with seasons. Small stilt villages and barge towns cling to raised hummocks while monstrous aberrations and twisted wildlife prowl the reeds, making the Mere feared and skirted by most merchants and armies.
