Shop Atmosphere
“Brynja's Coldlight General Store is a low, sod-roofed building half-buried in drifts at the edge of town. Inside, the air smells of pine tar and smoked meat; furs hang from the rafters and a battered iron stove hisses like a patient beast. Shelves slope with the roofline and small lanterns wink like captive stars. The proprietor Brynja Halvorsdottir stands behind a counter scarred by axe cuts and candle wax. She is a compact, weather-hardened human with hair bound in a woolen braid, a faded ranger's cloak folded over her arm, and quick, practical hands. Brynja knows the routes across the ice, the price of karma in a blizzard, and who owes what at the harbor. She will haggle politely for trade in furs or favors, and sometimes swaps a tin of Frostgrip Wax for a pair of boots someone promises to mend. Her shop stays open later than the rest after a northerly bite; if you need a rope at midnight, Brynja will find one for the right coin or a story of the road.”
