Shop Atmosphere

The Embered Anvil sits on a squat side-street, its doorway framed in soot-blackened stone. The shop's interior is a warm riot of sparks, hanging tools and polished weapon racks; a small forge dominates the back with an ever-present, carefully controlled fire. Dorna Coalbrow is squat and quick-handed with coal-streaked braids, spectacles perpetually perched on her nose and an ever-present leather apron with burn marks that tell stories. She speaks in clipped, pragmatic sentences and hums old dwarvish hammer-songs while she works. She is proud of a few signature pieces (the Flamebrand and Hammer of the Forge) and will show them to respected customers—but first she'll quiz you about your fighting style before recommending gear. A brass-eyed mechanical owl named Cinder—one of Dorna's Battle Smith curiosities—perches above the door, bringing small tools and an occasional mug of hot cider. Dorna offers reasonable discounts to regulars and to those who bring rare ore; she dislikes arrogance and will loudly criticize shoddy crusaders who expect perfect gear for a pittance.
