Shop Atmosphere
“Ironhide Tannery smells of tannin, metal and hot stone. The shop sits below a hemmed slag-arch, lit by a few dim glowfungi jars. Hammers and needles ring in the background as apprentices push hides into smoking vats. Ghalryk rarely smiles; when he does, it's to show a missing tooth replaced by an iron peg. He keeps an annoyingly punctual shop ledger and expects barter in rare underdark components (luminescent mycelia, black iron ore) as readily as coin. Outsiders who mishandle hides or complain about the 'smell' are invited to help with the next curing batch — and often accept the offer. The duergar pride in 'practical beauty': every purchase includes a tiny repair stitch and a solemn nod.”
