Shop Atmosphere
“Thistledown's Philter & Tincture sits on a crooked lane near the market, its windows fogged with condensation and labeled in curling, hand-painted script. Shelves slope under the weight of bottles in impossible colors, and the air smells of citrus, lavender, and burnt sugar. A soft, continuous bubbling hum comes from a back-room alembic where Mirelle does her work; a brass clockwork owl named 'Cinder' perches above the counter and occasionally dispenses measured drops of reagent into a flask. Mirelle herself is a chatty rock gnome with soot-smudged goggles and an apron full of tiny measuring spoons; she haggles in riddles (and is surprisingly strict about returns — opened potions are nonrefundable). She carries a ledger of customers and a small policy: 'No sale to obvious pyromaniacs and no disguises at dusk.' Regulars get a free sample of distilled water or a bandage with purchase; Mirelle sometimes offers to trade for rare ingredients (monster glands, moonwater, or the scent of a certain northern blossom) rather than coin. When busy she hums an old inventors' tune and absentmindedly rearranges labels by color instead of name.”
