Shop Atmosphere
“The Ironbound Armory sits on a flagged side street just off the market square. Inside, iron and oak harmonize: racks of weapons, hanging shields, and a forge whose coals are never fully cold. The air smells of oil, hot metal, and pine tar. Shelves near the counter hold neatly labeled boxes for enchanted goods; a brass bell chimes with a strain of metal when a customer approaches. The owner, Magda Ironwright, is a broad-shouldered hill dwarf artificer of level 7 who spent her youth in a mercenary company and later apprenticed to an arcane smith. Her left forearm is fitted with leather straps and a small arcane latchet she uses as a measuring tool. She greets customers with practical bluntness and a dry laugh, measures armor to the half-inch, and offers free minor adjustments on the spot. Magda will haggle for trade-ins (particularly ore, masterwork components, or functioning minor magic items) and keeps a ledger for repairs (typical turnaround three days for full armor rework; same-day for minor repairs if the forge is quiet). She has a soft spot for young recruits and offers a 10% discount to soldiers of the city watch. If you listen while she works you might hear fragments of old battle songs and the clink of a hidden melody woven into her hammerwork.”
