Shop Atmosphere
“The shop smells of fresh-cut pine and boiled linseed oil. A thin sand line marks a 'no-shavings' path across the floor. Beatrice keeps a battered ledger behind the counter where villagers leave rough sketches; she answers each sketch with a tiny wood-burned stamp of her initials. A gray barn cat named Splinter naps on the pile of cedar shavings and will rub against a customer's leg if they bring a hurried commission. If business is slow Beatrice whistles a steady rhythm as she planes, and customers often find her humming the same tune when a piece comes out perfectly true.”
