Shop Atmosphere
“The shop sits on a crooked lane behind the apothecary row, its windows fogged with years of boiled herbs. Shelves are a cheerful jumble of labeled bottles, clipped botanical sketches, and clipped (and slightly singed) recipe notes. A low, ever-present simmer rises from a back cauldron and the air carries a tang of citrus, iron, and resin. The shopkeeper is talkative and slightly fidgety: she hums while she works, taps a measuring rod against her teeth when thinking, and likes to offer a free sample of a harmless tonic to strangers. She keeps a battered ledger of trades and a small locked chest of higher-quality reagents. Customers who leave without buying are likely to be offered a gratis cup of tepid herb tea and a short lecture on the proper storage of volatile liquids.”
