Shop Atmosphere
“Merra's Mercantile sits on the corner of Market Lane and the riverwalk, its windows fogged with patchwork panes. Inside the shop the air smells of beeswax, dried herbs, and wool; bundles hang from the ceiling and shelves are crammed with labeled jars, rope coils, and curious trinkets rescued from caravan runs. A small workbench near the back bears a permanent scatter of sharpened nails, scraps of leather, and a brass scale that never seems to balance the same twice. The shop is open long hours and offers a modest line of barter: Merra happily takes trade for useful odds and ends. The owner is Merra Tallow, a human Level 2 Commoner and retired caravaner who runs the shop with the no-nonsense efficiency of someone who has set up camp in half a dozen border towns. She wears a patched travel cloak, keeps a ledger with tiny neat script, and has a small brass thimble on her right index that she fiddles with when thinking. Merra knows the regulars by name and will grumble good-naturedly at inexperienced haggling, but she will also show a bit of kindness to a group that helps with a heavy crate or brings news from the road.”
