Faelir Thalor, the proprietor, is a spare, cheerful wood elf with water-slick hair and callused fingers. He hums in an old elven cadence while mending nets and speaks kindly to patrons and fish alike. Faelir hires apprentices from the local grove and will take on advanced hands in exchange for fair pay and lessons. Jobs offered from the shop: 1) Apprentice Fisher (unskilled helper) - Duties: mend nets, bait hooks, clean and sort catch, carry gear to the boats. Pay: 2 sp per day (canonical untrained hireling rate). Typical assignment: 1-2 weeks; Suggested milestone reward: 50 XP for a week of consistent service, plus practical learning. Skills learned: basic Survival (fishing), handling fishing tackle, basic boat bailing and maintenance. After three consecutive weeks of good work the apprentice gains practical proficiency with Fishing Tackle (DM adjudicates). 2) River Guide (skilled seasonal hire) - Duties: pilot boats for day-fishing trips, situate lines at promising runs, keep clients comfortable, minor first aid. Pay: 2 gp per day (canonical skilled hireling rate). Typical assignment: single-day outings to multi-week contracts; Suggested XP reward: 75-150 XP per successful outing or 200 XP for a multi-day contract. Skills learned: Navigation on inland waterways, Water Vehicles handling, bonus practice in Charisma-based customer management. 3) Netwright and Tackle Artisan (skilled craft job) - Duties: repair and custom-weave nets, craft specialized lures, treat ropes and woodwork. Pay: 2 gp per day. Typical assignment: ongoing; Suggested XP reward: 100 XP per week of productive service. Skills learned: one artisan tool proficiency (net-weaving or leatherworking), +2 to checks when repairing nets for the shop once proficient. 4) Advanced Seasonal Fisher (lead fisher) - Duties: lead the shop's hunting of migratory trout runs, set and manage large nets, supervise apprentices. Pay: 2 gp per day plus a small share of any exceptional finds. Suggested XP reward: 150-300 XP per season based on accomplishments and catches. Skills learned: Survival (aquatic), Nature, and supervisory experience that grants advantage on Leadership checks when commanding apprentices.
