Potions2

A small ruby-red vial that mends flesh and whitens bruises when drunk.

Heal 7 HPHeals HP when consumed.

A syrupy, silver-blue potion. After drinking, the body feels remarkably light and sure-footed.

For 1 hour, the drinker gains a climb speed equal to their walking speed and advantage on Strength (Athletics) checks made to climb.
Miscellaneous4

A curled page of vellum with a single floating hand illustrated in ink that shimmers when held.

Single-use: casting of the Mage Hand cantrip. If the scroll's spell is on your class spell list, you can cast it without a spellcasting check.

A neat scroll sealed with a small strip of gauze and a smear of salve; it hums faintly when opened.

Heal 6 HPSingle-use: casts Cure Wounds at 1st level (healing + spellcasting modifier; listed healingAmount is an average estimate for quick reference).

A whisper-thin scroll that appears to shimmer out of sight unless looked at closely.

Single-use: casts Invisibility (concentration, up to 1 minute or until the target attacks or casts a spell).

A circular scroll with a single silver glyph stamped in the middle. The glyph glows when held over an unknown trinket.

Single-use: casts Identify. Reveals properties of a magic item and how to use it.
Miscellaneous1

A palm-sized wand of polished yew topped with a brass star. Tiny motes of light gather at its tip.

The wand holds 7 charges. You can spend charges to cast Magic Missile. It regains charges each dawn. If you expend the last charge, roll a d20 — on a 1 the wand crumbles.
Weapons1

A finely balanced short sword with a faint runic filigree along the blade. It hums when orcs are near.

Atk +1 to attack and damage rolls made with this weapon.
Miscellaneous3

A moss-green cloak that seems to swallow ambient light; the threads are impossibly fine.

While hooded, the wearer has advantage on Dexterity (Stealth) checks and creatures have disadvantage on Wisdom (Perception) checks to detect the wearer.

A stout leather bag with an impossibly deep interior — a mote of starlight dances near its mouth.

Holds up to 500 lb, not exceeding a volume of 64 cubic feet. Retrieving a particular item takes an action if you do not remember its position.

A palm-sized lens of smoky glass in a brass rim. Looking through it sharpens small details and reveals faint illusion outlines once per day.

Once per day: grants advantage on one Perception or Investigation check and briefly reveals the edges of an illusion for 1 minute.
Miscellaneous4

A stitched pouch with numerous small compartments holding common spell components: chalk, bat guano substitute, salt, and more.

Contains non-costly material components for spells that do not have a gold component.

A corked glass flask filled with a viscous, golden liquid that smolders faintly.

Thrown as an improvised attack; sticks to the target and may ignite flammable objects.

A sturdy, lockable book of blank vellum pages protected by faint glyphs that keep ink from bleeding.

Holds spells for wizards; protected from casual prying (simple arcane lock).

Simple charcoal sticks bound with a cloth; when used to draw simple runes they last until brushed away.

Useful for marking wards, quick glyphs, and temporary ritual circles. Non-magical on its own.
Miscellaneous1

A small bottle of deep blue ink and a silver-tipped quill; the ink won't blot even when used on damp pages.

Used to copy spells into spellbooks and to craft spells scrolls (reduces chance of smudging).

Shop Atmosphere

The Gilded Codex occupies a narrow, crooked shop wedged between a bakery and a clockmaker. Shelves slope and rearrange themselves overnight; the ceiling is a lattice of hanging crystals that tinkle like tiny wind chimes whenever someone speaks an ill-formed spell. Merris runs the shop with a stern kindness — she keeps a battered book of 'lost things' (socks, letters, single earrings) and will sometimes offer a 5% 'found-item' discount if you return one of the shop's missing oddments. A clockwork raven named Soot patrols the shop, delivering small purchases to buyers and occasionally hiding the ham-fried satchel (it thinks satchels are toys). Merris is fond of bartering knowledge as much as coin: pass a short riddle or identify a simple sigil and she may knock a small amount off the price or throw in a free charcoal rune.
