He hums old hunting tunes while keeping a ledger in a tiny scrap of vellum. The store smells of pine oil, beeswax, and leather; a sleepy mongrel named Tallow snoozes on a pile of blankets. He offers a small discount (5% or a hot meal) to customers who trade a good tale or an interesting trinket. Merrin will occasionally barter useful information about nearby routes or creatures for an item of equivalent value. The shelves are orderly by Merrin's own logic—tools near the hearth, climbing gear under the coats, and potions in a locked chilled box behind the counter.”
