Shop Atmosphere
“The Gilded Grimoire is run by Maris Vellant as proprietor but staffed by a rotating trio: an elderly gnome artificer (Tibben Quickcoil) who refurbishes devices, a blunt human ex-sorcerer (Dara Keel) who manages trade secrecy, and a soft-spoken kenku scribe (Ink) who crafts scrolls. The shop keeps a visible ledger of morally dubious items they won't sell (list posted by the counter). Haggling is accepted but Maris insists on honesty—if you lie to her ledger, she makes a note and private enchantments become more expensive for repeat offenders. The shop smells of old paper, ozone, and spiced tea; coins sometimes ring oddly when dropped into Maris's brass till (the till is rumored to be enchanted to detect counterfeit coin).”
