Shop Atmosphere
“The armory smells of hot iron and oiled leather. A bell over the counter is usually rung only once - a quick, flat ring that brings the shopkeeper from the back forge. The proprietor favors customers who bargain in stories as well as coin - she keeps a ledger of remembered favors and will sometimes accept a salvageable piece of enemy gear in part payment. A small wooden cuckoo with a metal beak sits above the doorway; if a patron buys a particularly fine weapon, the cuckoo pecks the bell twice. The shop's sign is dented from a long-ago siege and the dent is polished rather than repaired - a local superstition says it brings luck in battle.”
