Miscellaneous4

A healthy, medium riding horse, steady on roads and used to packs and travelers. Suitable for a single rider.

Accustomed to dusty roads and the presence of patrols; saves at advantage against being frightened by passing soldiers or camp noises.

Large, steady beast for pulling wagons and heavy loads.

Unfazed by long hauls and heavy loads; slow but tireless for travel and hauling.

A larger, battle-trained warhorse with steady temperament and exposure to combat.

Trained to remain calm in battle and respond to mounted commands; more likely to stand firm when allies are injured (DM discretion).

Smaller, stubborn beast for carrying heavy packs along rough roads.

Handles rough trails and steep paths better than a horse.
Miscellaneous10

Standard leather saddle for comfortable long rides and secure seating.

Sturdier saddle with reinforced straps and extra rings for weapons and gear; common in patrols near the base.

Has extra tie-points for lances, pouches, and a scabbard for a saber.

Standard iron shoes for hoof protection and traction.

A set of four polished iron shoes with faintly etched wind runes.

Once per day while fitted, the mount's speed increases by 10 feet for up to 1 hour. The effect ends early if the mount is incapacitated or dismissed.

Extra hardware for attaching shields, lances, and small siege tools to a saddle.

A sack of oats sufficient for one mount for about a week on the road.

A roughly tied bale of hay for resting mounts.

A sturdy lantern for lighting a stable yard or watch post.

Sturdy 50-foot hemp rope, useful for tying loads, leading animals, and field repairs.

A heavy set of iron-shod plates etched with warding glyphs. Rare and coveted by cavalry officers.

While fitted, the mount is much harder to knock prone: physical effects that would knock it prone fail unless they deal a critical hit. Additionally, the mount gains advantage on saves to resist being shoved or knocked back. (Rare magic; DM adjudicates exact mechanics.)
Armor3

Leather armor fitted for a mount. Useful against slashes and thrown debris.

AC +1

Heavier leather barding with metal rivets for better protection on patrols.

AC +2

Heavy chain barding plated for warhorses. Sold rarely and often kept for regimental mounts.

AC +4Preferred for front-line cavalry. Limits some mobility but greatly increases durability.
Potions3

Herbal salve for cuts, strains and bruises on animals.

Applies to a mount: restores hit points and grants advantage on the next saving throw against being frightened or poisoned (DM may limit use per day).

Clear red liquid in a small vial. Restores a small amount of hit points when drunk.

Heals hit points when consumed (standard Potion of Healing).

A bitter-smelling serum used to neutralize poisons in the bloodstream.

When administered to a creature, grants advantage on saving throws against poison for 1 hour.
Weapons1

Long, reinforced spear designed for use on horseback. Balanced for charges.

When its wielder is mounted and charges, the DM may allow improved impact (story/positioning dependent). Awkward in cramped melee while unmounted.
Miscellaneous2

A kit for cleaning and maintaining a mount's coat and hooves.

Regular grooming accelerates minor recovery and reduces chance of riding-related disease (roleplay benefit).

Tools for shoeing and minor hoof repairs.

Shop Atmosphere

Branor Voss is a scarred ex-cavalry sergeant who whistles reveille at odd hours and keeps a neat row of service medals above the tack room. He insists customers sign a short waiver and prefers barter in labour or escort duties to and from the nearby military base if tensions are high. Two brindled mastiffs—'Shale' and 'Pike'—patrol the yard and will only accept sweets from friends. Branor marks special military-grade gear with a chipped iron 'V' for inventory; he sometimes sells surplus military items quietly to parties who can prove they won't use them for raiding the road.
