Shop Atmosphere
“The Silver Ghat Forge sits on a narrow lane that slopes down toward a broad river ghat. A steady curl of incense smoke drifts from the forge's open doorway. Brass bells and small prayer ribbons hang near the lintel; the rhythmic clink of hammer on anvil echoes like distant bellwork. Inside, the air smells of hot iron, sandalwood, and river herbs that cut through rot. The owner keeps a basin of river water near the anvil and sprinkles it in a measured way while working, accompanied by soft devotional humming. The shop details items useful to travelers dealing with the uncanny: offerings for cleansing, silvering for wary were-hunters, and balms and incense to make fetid caverns tolerable. Bargains are often accompanied by a whispered blessing and a coin-sized stamp of heated metal bearing a wave and trident emblem. The owner insists on respectful handling of sacred imagery and will refuse to sell ritual incense in bulk to those who joke about the rites.”
