Shop Atmosphere

The shop sits half-buried into the mountain wall and smells faintly of iron and pine resin. Light from oil lamps catches the facets of dozens of stones, scattering flecks of color across stout stone counters. Shelves are low and neatly labeled with tiny iron tags; small velvet pouches hold more precious finds. Duar Gleam stands behind the counter with his arms folded, polishing cloth slung over one shoulder. He does not speak much and prefers to communicate with a lift of an eyebrow or the clink of a coin on the counter. He weighs everything twice and will only haggle by showing you the stones and letting them speak for themselves. Duar keeps a battered ledger under a bar of stone for notes, and offers a short, curt nod to customers he trusts. Occasionally a faint hum of a grinding wheel can be heard from the back where an apprentice files and polishes under Duar's watchful eye.
