A simple, nonmagical tattoo: small sigils, clan marks, or runic doodles. Done quickly with sterilized iron needles and charcoal or soot-based inks.

None

A full traditional orcish sleeve: warbands, trophy marks, and clan script. Expertly shaded to last in the humid caverns of the Underdark.

Cultural significance — many orc enclaves respect bearers of authentic sleeves.

A thick, almost oily black ink harvested from luminescent fungus tinctured with crushed cave spider chitin. Tattoos done with this ink darken and can hide slightly in dim light.

Grants advantage on a single Deception or Stealth check to hide the tattoo's presence once before ink fades (lasts 1 week or 3 washes).

A gritty, iron-scented salve applied after tattooing. Encourages quick healing and helps settle enchanted inks.

Heal 3 HPHeals 3 hp over the first hour if applied within 10 minutes of tattooing. Helps prevent infection (advantage on CON saves vs. infection).

A set of five reusable, hand-forged iron needles specially tempered to resist corrosion. Preferred for deep, permanent lines.

Durable: needles last longer than conventional tools; +2 to tool check DCs to craft or repair tattoo work when used.

A faintly glowing blue-green dye from bioluminescent mushrooms. Tattoos made with this ink give off dim light for up to 8 hours.

Tattoos emit dim light in a 5-foot radius for 8 hours after application or once per day if applied permanently.

Cheap, harmless inks used for celebrations or temporary disguises. Washes off after a week or several scrubbings.

None

Partial removal using a gritty duergar paste and a scouring ritual. Removes or lightens nonmagical tattoos; risky for deep or fresh work.

Removes up to 50% of pigment for nonmagical tattoos. Failed attempts can leave scarring or infection (CON save to avoid necrotic damage).
Miscellaneous1

A rune-patterned tattoo of layered grey and iron-black. For 24 hours grants an effect similar to the Stoneskin spell (resistance to nonmagical weapon damage) but only against a single weapon type chosen when inked.

AC +2Grants resistance to bludgeoning, piercing, or slashing (player chooses) for 24 hours.
Miscellaneous2

A curling tattoo in crimson and dark bronze that warms the skin. Once per long rest the bearer can add fire damage to a single successful melee attack. The tattoo is subtle until activated.

Recharge: 1/long rest. The tattoo glows faintly when charged.

An interlaced duergar glyph in iron-grey ink. Grants advantage on one saving throw against a single negative condition (poison, fear, or paralysis) once per day.

Once per long rest: grant advantage on one saving throw vs. a chosen condition.
Miscellaneous1

A jagged green-black sigil, traditionally inked by the orc patron for warriors. For one day it grants a burst of rage: when you hit in melee you may deal an extra damage once. Afterwards the sigil goes dormant for 7 days.

Single-use effect; after activation the tattoo becomes plain and decorative for 7 days while the inks reset.
Miscellaneous1

A fully custom, permanent magical tattoo woven with duergar metallurgy and underdark sigils. Depending on the runes chosen it can grant a variety of effects (see notes). Creation requires several days and a bargaining of favors.

Custom: examples include +1 to attack rolls (rare), once-per-short-rest elemental burst, or +1 to AC as a subtle ward. Exact effect negotiated; Vyrk's skill limited by available materials.

Shop Atmosphere

The shop is carved into a shallow cavern and smells faintly of iron and fungus. Vyrk works under an oil-lamp fitted with glass made from melted deepstone; his hands are always dusted with a grey metallic sheen. Azogha, a broad-shouldered female orc with intricate clan scars, sits near the door and offers advice on authentic orc motifs, occasionally insisting a client accept a particular war-phrase to bind with their ink. Vyrk never charges for gossip; he charges in coin or favors. He hums a low duergar chant while working; the tune is said to calm restless spirits in the stone. A noticeboard lists 'no tattoos for drow nobles' and a small jar labeled 'tips (safely ferried down the shaft)' sits by the entrance.
