Shop Atmosphere
“The shop is called The Braided Hearth, a warm, flour-scented bakery that doubles as a travelers' pit stop. The oven's hearth is always lit and a low tinkling of spoons and soft conversation echoes between racks of cooling loaves. A chalkboard by the counter lists daily specials in looping script and the back shelves hold a modest array of traveler supplies for those setting off at dawn: waterskins, a roll or two, some rations and a tinderbox tucked between cookie tins. On market days the front window overflows with pies wrapped in paper and tied with twine. The owner is Nella Bramble, a lightfoot halfling baker and a commoner of practical skill (level 2). Nella is perpetually flour-dusted, with quick hands and a slower smile. She remembers regulars by the sound of their boots and has a knack for making small charms out of pastry crusts to cheer the downcast. She fusses over the apprentices like a hen and will quietly slip a buttered roll to an injured adventurer for the road. Nella keeps a ledger with prices and a small locked box with a single bottle of potion she keeps for emergencies; she bakes the minor magical goods herself when herbs are on hand and will barter a warm loaf for favors when coin runs thin. If customers complain about the portion size she offers a tiny sugared biscuit and a story to make them leave with a full belly.”
