Shop Atmosphere
“Tallow & Thread General sits on the corner of Market Lane, a low-slung timber building with a patched canvas awning and an open counter stacked with jars, coils of rope, and battered weapon racks. The shop smells of pine tar, drying leather, and a faint tang of herbs. Lanterns hang from the eaves and a small chalkboard out front lists "bread, nails, odd jobs" and today's exchange rates. Behind the counter stands Maris Tallow, a human level 3 trader who learned a few parrying tricks in town watch duty and keeps a hand axe in a peg by the door. Maris is affable, practical, and shrewd; she knows the local farmers, the smith, and which traveling bard might need a spare string. She will haggle politely with adventurers, offers small discounts for bulk purchases, and will happily trade information or a favor for gear she cannot legally sell. The back rooms hold a locked chest where the more unusual items are kept; Maris only sells those to customers she trusts or those who bring a good story. Children like to peer through the window for a chance to see the odd blinking vial kept under glass.”
