Shop Atmosphere
“The Arcanist's Anvil sits in the academy's shadowed quadrangle, a narrow shop of welded brass and frosted glass whose windows glow with the steady orange of a tempering fire. Shelves are stacked with labeled ingots, coils of wire and jars of shimmering quench salts. Blue chalk runes are scribbled on anvils and the floor, a practical nod to the teachable magics the smith uses to speed apprentices' learning. The owner, Maevin Thalor, hums old hammering rhythms while working, speaks intermittently in trade terms and arcane metaphors, and insists every new customer try a cup of the shop's bitter mint tea before any sale. Maevin keeps a ledger of favors owed to the academy; he offers small discounts to students and will take on barter for tutoring in smithing technique. He is always accompanied by a soot-streaked raven that drops tiny metal scraps into a tin by the door.”
