Shop Atmosphere
“The Forge of Old Rurik sits half-below street level, a soot-darkened doorway framed by ironwork shaped like interlocking hammers. Inside, chains creak and vents send warm breaths of air into the lane. The shop smells of coal, hot oil, and milk-washed steel. Tools hang in careful rows; a shallow trough of water for quenching fishes a flash when a blade is plunged. Rurik himself is a barrel-chested human with quick, soot-streaked hands and a scorched, silvered eyebrow. He is a former battlefield armorer who keeps a ledger of favored regulars and a bottle of sour cherry cordial under the counter. Rurik is blunt, proud of his craft, and will haggle with charm rather than insult. He will do modest enchantments and sells a few uncommon magic pieces but will only undertake rare or exotic commissions after trustworthy customers leave a substantial deposit.”
