Shop Atmosphere
“The Ember Anvil sits on a cobblestone alley off the market square; the shopfront is blackened from years of smoke and the sign is a hammered iron anvil with a faintly carved ember motif. Inside the air is warm and smells of coal and oil. Bram Helms, a broad-shouldered human with a soot-smeared apron and a scar along his forearm, runs the place. He is talkative and practical — quick to offer a repair for a coin or a story for a pint. Bram whistles sea shanties while he works (he once apprenticed in a river town) and keeps a grizzled grey tomcat, Sparks, who sleeps atop a pile of spare leather. He offers basic sharpening and minor repairs on the spot (typically 1 sp–2 sp), will re-forge simple items for a modest fee, and takes custom commissions (extra time and price). Bram prefers fairness over profit and often gives a small discount to local militia and adventurers heading out on short jobs. He also hangs a few odd items from the rafters — a rusted helmet, a child's wooden sword, and a plaque listing people who owe him coin — and will barter repairs for food or favors in a pinch.”
