He catalogs purchases in an inked ledger that smells faintly of ozone and lavender; locals say his ledger sometimes moves on its own. When suspicious customers arrive he dims the lanterns and speaks in a lower, careful voice. Regulars find small, personalized charms tucked into their parcels; strangers might find a slug of sand at the bottom of the package—an old warning that Mirek keeps for those who try to double-cross him.
