If applied to a weapon (one melee strike), weapon deals +1 negative energy damage on hit for 1 attack. If poured onto skin or ingested, it causes damage and the imbiber gains a single use of 1st-level false life (temporary HP ) but becomes unsettled (–1 to concentration for 10 minutes).

A stub of black wax that burns with cold blue flame. Scent of old earth and bells.

Provides dim, cold blue light in a 20-foot radius for 6 hours. When extinguished, it may whisper the name of a person the next sunrise (50% chance).

A flat, glassy pebble that records up to 10 seconds of sound when held and tapped twice.

Plays back the recorded sound when tapped once. Recording possible once per day; 10% chance the pebble adds a single eerie whisper afterwards that only the holder hears.

A thimble-sized cloth of ashen powder. Smells faintly of rosemary and iron.

When thrown into the air, obscures 5-foot area with clinging gray mist for 1 round + 1/2 caster level (min 1). Creatures in area suffer a -1 morale penalty to Will saves for the duration if they fail a Will save.

Once per day, the book offers a single cantrip-equivalent (detect magic, light, or ghost sound) as though cast by a 1st-level caster. There's a 10% chance the book whispers secrets to anyone who studies it for more than 1 hour (may lead to unsettling knowledge).

When worn, grants +1 circumstance bonus to Bluff checks at night but also causes wearer to sneeze once per hour while awake (minor nuisance). Once attuned (just wearing), ring bonds awkwardly—removal requires a Remove Curse or similar (cursed item).

A small iron lantern with a cracked smoky lens; light is thin and silver.

Emits light as a lantern (normal) but any creature illuminated that is undead or ethereal is outlined clearly; the bearer gains +1 on Will saves against fear while the lantern is lit. However, the bearer also occasionally sees brief flashes of ephemeral faces, imposing a -1 morale penalty to Diplomacy checks for the next hour (10% chance each hour lit).

A sliver-black locket that clicks open occasionally to reveal a shifting, foggy portrait.

Once per day, when opened deliberately, it projects a ghostly image of a person (as silent image) for up to 1 minute. The locket sometimes opens on its own, revealing the image to passersby (chance 1 in 8 per dawn), which can cause rumors or alarm.
